Kesedaran Metakognitif Membaca dan Pencapaian Akademik Mata Pelajaran Bahasa

ABSTRACT


The purpose of this study is to gain a better understanding of the reading metacognitive awareness among secondary school students, and its relationship to academic achievement in language subjects. Data were collected based on a questionnaire and the Index of Reading Awareness. The questionaire elicited information on the scores of some subjects. The Index of Reading Awareness consisted of 20 questions appraising the level of reading metacognitive awareness. The findings of the study revealed that achievement in Bahasa Melayu, Bahasa Inggeris and Bahasa Arab was significantly related to reading metacognitive awareness. Hence, in the teaching and learning of these subjects, the metacognitive aspect of learning has to be stressed to produce effective readers.
